Where 11.664 grams comes from
Bhori is the word for a tola in Assam, Bengal and parts of eastern India. A tola was fixed at 180 grains under the British Indian weights system in 1833. A grain is 0.06479891 grams, so 180 grains is 11.6638 grams, which is rounded to 11.664 for gold.
India moved to metric weights in 1956, and jewellery is weighed in grams. The bhori stayed in everyday speech, especially for wedding gold: families still say a set is “five bhori” rather than 58.32 grams. Some people round to 11.66 g. On one bhori the difference is a few milligrams, but on a large set it is worth knowing which figure was used.

Why does my jeweller's bill show grams, not bhori?
Weighing and billing are done in metric units; the tola was officially replaced by metric units in India from 1956. Bhori survives as a way of talking about amounts, so convert it to grams before comparing quotes.
