Where this rate comes from
This is the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) benchmark for 999 silver, the same rate across India and before 3% GST. IBJA publishes it with the gold rate around 12:30 PM and 6:30 PM IST on working days. Shops add GST and, for ornaments and articles, a making charge.
Silver moves more than gold in percentage terms, so if you are buying a large quantity, check the rate on the day. For articles and ornaments, ask for the purity mark: 925 means 92.5% pure (sterling silver).

Where does the silver rate for India come from?
It is IBJA's benchmark rate for 999 silver, the same across India and before 3% GST. Silver is far cheaper per gram than gold but moves more in percentage terms, so it can swing more on a given day.
Why is silver more volatile than gold?
Silver has a large industrial demand component (electronics, solar panels, photography) on top of its use as a store of value. That dual demand, combined with a smaller overall market, makes silver prices move in wider percentage ranges than gold.
In what units is silver usually quoted?
Silver is commonly quoted per gram and per kilogram in India. Coins and bars are sold by weight; for larger holdings the per-kg figure is the convenient reference. We show both per gram and per kg above.
Should I check the hallmark when buying silver?
Yes. Reputable silver articles carry a purity mark (such as 925 for sterling silver, i.e. 92.5% pure). Buying hallmarked or assay-marked silver protects you on purity, especially for higher-value items.
